About the Church

Zion Lutheran Church has been in Decatur since 1901 and has a long history of serving the people of our community.  The members of Zion take seriously the mission of our church, “Every One, Every Where, Sharing Christ.”  It guides everything we do at Zion from Worship, Bible studies, Fellowship Activities, Youth, Music, and School.  It is why we have so many activities and ministries to help people grow in their faith and find ways to serve our Lord and our community.

Inside the church sanctuary

Zion is a church that is deeply committed to our Lutheran heritage in teaching the Word of God and receiving His gifts in Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  You can see this heritage in all of our worship services whether it is a traditional service using our Lutheran Liturgy, a blended service using a mix of traditional and contemporary styles, or our modern service with current music and instruments.  In everything we do our message remains the same, “It is by grace you have been saved, and this not of yourselves but the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8.

The Lord has been at work at Zion for over 100 years and he continues His work in our church as He gathers us into a loving Christian community that studies His Word, gathers for fellowship, and works to meet the needs of our neighbors.  At Zion you will find a vibrant community of faith made up of young and old, working and retired, new parents and old parents, and those who simply need a place to call home.  Wherever you are in life there is a place here at Zion for you as we all become, “Everyone, Everywhere, Sharing Christ.”
